Bio

Independent musician, composer, arranger, and educator Joe Goehle is a freelance upright and electric bassist who can be seen performing in the greater WNY area, as well as touring nationally and internationally. As a staple in the Buffalo jazz scene, Joe is a founding member of the Buffalo Jazz Composers Workshop, which performs original improvisational music in the WNY area. Joe also regularly performs with the Buffalo Jazz Collective and Star People, an ensemble that explores the music of Miles Davis and his contemporaries.

 

Joe has performed alongside jazz greats such as Rich Perry, Pat LaBarbera, Jane Monheit, Gap Mangione, Don Menza, Bobby LaVell, Brad Leali, Bobby Millitello, and Pete Levin, to name a few. He has performed at venerated jazz clubs in NYC such as the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and Zinc Bar. Joe has also performed at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Syracuse Jazz and Wine Festival, Kalamazoo Blues Festival, Tall City Blues Festival, New York City Jazz Festival, Northwest (Formerly Lewiston) Jazz Festival.

 

As an electric bassist, Joe has toured the US with acclaimed blues artist Tas Cru and the Tortured Souls, recording two albums: Tired of Bluesmen Cryin’ (2012) and Blues Music Award Nominated Simmered & Stewed (2017). He is a co-founding member of the NY-Nashville Connection, where Joe served as a musician, arranger, and producer on a number of EP’s in Nashville and NYC from 2013-2017. In 2019, Joe performed with the great Charles Callelo that featured music from his storied career working with Franki Valli and the Four Seasons, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, and many more.

 

Equally versed in classical double bass, Joe has been a section bassist with The Orchestra of Northern New York, the Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra, and the NY Symphonic Arts Ensemble, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and the Clarence Summer Orchestra. In 2022, Joe was a featured performer in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s presentation of “Gospel According to Swing” at Kleinhans Music Hall with trumpeter Byron Stripling and organist Bobby Floyd.

 

Joe holds a B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and a M.M. in Jazz Studies from New York University.
